Kent Search and Rescue and NSARDA CanTech unite for a safer future
This month Kent Search and Rescue (KSAR) and NSARDA CanTech Dogs signed an agreement for CanTech to become an integral dog unit within KSAR.
KSAR had, for some time been considering establishing a Dog Unit that would be fully integrated. This discussion and decision was brought about as a result of some 14 years of working with external Dog Units.
Os Oliver, KSAR Chairman said “The obvious solution was to integrate CanTech, (a member Association of NSARDA). All operational members of CanTech have always been members of KSAR and active within the team for some years as dog handlers, dog support, foot searchers, team leaders and general support to KSAR. Following discussions between KSAR and CanTech both parties agreed that, in the interests of all missing persons in Kent amalgamation was the preferred way forward.
The integration will remove any barriers to providing a consistent and robust level of service, properly coordinated and in line with the recent consultation document ‘Framework for the provision of Search Dogs within ALSAR’”
Above all bringing the provision of all the core elements of search (management, foot and dog) will provide a consistency of approach which will benefit every misper, everywhere, every time. [ALSAR Consultation Document, January 2012]
Os Oliver (Chairman of KSAR) and James Dunn (Chairman of CanTech) are enthusiastic about the new relationship and see the new structure as yet another step forward in the ever evolving capabilities of KSAR.
